Andrew A. Willaert Sr.

—   Andrew A. Willaert Sr., age 78, of Mankato, died on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato.

  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Clair with Rev. Robert Schneider officiating.  Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary.  Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church.  Private family burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.

  Andrew was born on April 19, 1934 in Mankato to C. Henry and Theresa (Depuydt) Willaert.  He graduated from Loyola High School in 1952.  Andrew served four years in the United States Air Force.  On May 11, 1957 Andrew was united in marriage to Frances McCarthy at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.  He farmed with four of his brothers in the Mankato and St. Peter area.  After farming, Andrew worked in real estate from 1976-1991.  Andrew worked for the Grand Casino in Hinckley and in Mississippi.  After retirement, he moved back to Minnesota and worked in real estate again. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post #11.  Andrew loved his family and especially loved attending his grandchildrens sporting events and watching the Twins and Vikings.  He enjoyed golfing and traveling, especially to National Parks.

  Andrew is survived by his wife, Fran of Mankato; five children, Andrew (Anne) of Mankato, Carol (Dan) Fischenich of Victoria, MN, Dennis of Indiana, Mark of Mankato, and Leah (Pat) Krenz of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren, Alicia, Andrea (Trevor) Hanus, Meghan (fiance, Phil), Daniel (fiancee, Mary), Jack, Ryan, Katherine, and Patrick; two step-grandchildren, Elise and Stuart; two brothers, Robert (Mary) Willaert and Leon (Dorothy) Willaert; sister, Ignatia Seys; sisters-in-law, Kay Willaert and Lois Willaert; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his infant son, William; parents; siblings, Joseph (Florence), Marie, Lawrence (Pat), Francis, Joan (Roger) Mikolai, and Arthur; brother-in-law, Peter Seys; and sister-in-law, Armella Willaert.
