Evelyn (Tande) Urevig

—   Evelyn Signe (Tande) Urevig, 97, of Madelia, formerly of Lewisville, passed away peacefully Friday, December 7, 2012, surrounded by her family.

  Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 12th, at 10:30 A.M.  at Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman, MN  with Rev. Bruce Bringle officiating.  Visitation is Tuesday evening, December 11th,          from 5-7 P.M. at the Zaharia Funeral Home in Truman, and one hour at church prior to the service. Burial will be at Ridgelawn Cemetery of rural Truman.  

  Evelyn was born on May 8, 1915, to Anton and Minnie (Bakke) Tande of Madelia. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in the Rosendale Lutheran Church of rural Madelia.  Evelyn was educated in the local rural schools, graduated from Madelia High School in 1932, and a graduate of St. Olaf College in l937.  She taught school both before and after her marriage.

  Her marriage to Edgar Urevig of Cannon Falls, MN took place on June 29, 1940.  They lived in St. Paul and Bricelyn for a short time before moving to Lewisville where they lived for over 60 years.  In 2003, they sold their house and moved to the Amberfield Place Apartments in Madelia.  

  Evelyn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Truman, MN, where she was active in women's groups and music.   After moving to Madelia, she and her husband became members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia.

  Her hobbies included music, having been a church organist for many years.  Evelyn was a member of the Lewisville study club, a charter member of the Pioneer Spinners and Fiber Arts Guild of southern Minnesota.  She enjoyed spinning and weaving, making many beautiful garments and gifts for family and friends. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and traveled extensively in the United States and to many foreign countries.

  Evelyn's legacy is her family woven together with close loving threads.  She raised her three sons with a strong sense of family.  Evelyn was a nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She established traditions in her family with holidays, meals, and several vacation trips that included the entire family.   For three generations, she enjoyed watching her family's participation in sporting events and activities.  Evelyn will live on in their daily lives and thoughts.  There is a huge void without her, and she will be greatly missed.  Those who knew her will always have the example of her life imprinted on theirs.

  Survivors include three sons:  Thomas and Kathy Urevig of Madelia; Douglas Urevig of Galveston, TX; and Gregory Urevig of Madelia.  Four grandchildren:  Scott Urevig of Lewisville; Chad and Lori Urevig of St. James; Britta (Urevig) and Matt Romsdahl of St. James; Troy and Shelly Warling of Missoula, MT; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Muriel Walsh of Madelia; sister-in-law, Mary Urevig of Cannon Falls; as well as five nephews:  Gerald Tande of Madelia; Larry Tande of Medford; Paul Tande of Lake Crystal; Gale Benson of Apple Valley; and Gary Benson of Hastings.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leslie Tande; and her husband, Edgar Urevig.
