Shirley Ann Bistrup

— A child of God, Shirley Ann Bistrup, left the world peacefully Thursday, December 6th, 2012, in Denton, Texas, to go home for Christmas. Joining nine brothers and sisters, Shirley was born on February 9, 1935, to Salmer and Eda Anna (Schmidt)Hanson in Walnut Grove, MN. She graduated from Ivanhoe High School in 1953. On May 28, 1955, she married the love of her life; Private Kenneth H. Bistrup at the Zion Lutheran Church in Arco, MN, making their first home was in Lawton, OK. The vast majority of Shirley's wonderful life was in Mankato, MN, with several fun years at Reeds Lake in the Waterville-Elysian area. She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in North Mankato until moving to Texas in 2005 to live with her daughter.

 Shirley adored spending time with her cherished family and loved ones laughing, visiting, traveling, playing cards and games from pinochle to balderdash, jitterbugging with her husband, and joyously entertaining all those that visited. Her faith, family and friends provided the twinkle in her eyes and a beautiful, constant smile. She will be remembered for not only her chocolate chip cookies, but her ever-present kindness, endless patience, and dedicated attention to everyone she loved.

  Family mourning her passing include her son, Al Bistrup and daughter-in-law Nancy of Prior Lake, MN, daughter, Faye Reimers of Sanger, TX, Granddaughters and their husbands, Alicia & Jeff, Denton, TX, Jenny & Joe, Eagle Lake, MN, Lindsey & Jeremy, Providence Village, TX, and Lisa & Matt, Minnetonka, MN, and Great-grandsons, Haydn Kenley and Caden of Denton.

  Shirley, also known by many only as GG, was grandma to all of her granddaughters friends, especially Shannon and Grady Whittet and their children of Oak Grove, MN. Also surviving are her siblings, brother, Lavern Hanson, Arco, MN, and sister, Dorothy Kay, Danville, CA, and brothers-in-law, Duane and wife Ardyce, Denver, CO, Dick and wife Colleen, Willmar, MN, and Doug Bistrup, St. Paul, MN. Shirley will also be missed by her countless nieces and nephews and Godchildren, Gary Hanson, Janet Guennigsman, and Steve Bistrup.

  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ken, her parents, brothers (Earl, Fred, Harold, Martin, and Lester), sisters (Gertie and Edna), mother and father-in-law, Harold and Luella Bistrup, and several of Kens siblings.

  A special note of heartfelt gratitude goes to all of her caregivers in Sanger, TX, Dr. Scott Simms, and Accolades home health care and hospice for their loving care.

  Memorial services: Wednesday, December 12th visitation 6-8pm at Woodland Hills in Mankato. Thursday, December 13th  visitation at 10:30am, with church service at 11:30 at St. Paul's Lutheran church in North Mankato.

  Texas memorial will be Sunday, December 16th from 4-6pm at 308 Quail Crossing Dr., Sanger, TX 76266
