Anton "Tony" G. Kaisershot, age 90, of Cleveland, died Monday, November 12, 2012. Visitation will be held at Le Center Funeral Home on Thursday, November 15, 2012, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Le Center at 11 a.m. on Friday with visitation one hour prior at the church. Burial will be at the German Lake Cemetery. Tony was born on July 28, 1922, at home in Lexington Township, Le Sueur County to Thomas J. and Josephine (Fricova) Kaisershot.
He was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran in Le Center. He attended Country School District #93 through 8th grade and worked on the family farm until he left for the service in September 1942. On August 10, 1943, he was united in marriage to Violet (Kolander) Kaisershot at Camp Siebert, Alabama. Upon returning from overseas, he spent 37 years managing the Commander grain elevators, which later became GTA elevators, in Waterville, Elysian and Le Center.
After crossing the Atlantic on the Queen Elizabeth, his tour of duty with the 64th Chemical Depot included landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day + 3, St. Lo, the Battle of the Bulge and crossing the Elbe River into Germany. He was honorably discharged in November 1945.
Tony was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1803 where he served as Commander and other offices. He was a lifetime member of the Le Center Legion Post 108, drove the VA van for Le Sueur County for 15 years. He was in charge of the Honor and Color Guard of Le Center for many years and continued to participate up to the time of his death. He was an honorary member of the FFA, served on the Le Sueur County Fair Board, the German Lake Cemetery board, and was a member of the Le Center City Council. In addition, he was a member of the Le Center Community Club and the DAV of Mankato. He received the Outstanding Elevator Manager of the Year Award in 1971 and was chosen Le Sueur County Male Senior Citizen for 1994. Tony received an Army-granted diploma from Le Center High School in 1999. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, deer hunting, bowling, old-time music, dancing, attending and cheering for the many activities of his children, grandchildren, and now his great grandchildren.
After retirement in 1983, Tony and Vi enjoyed traveling and visited most of the 50 states, including helping land an 1100 pound Blue Marlin in Hawaii. They also enjoyed visiting numerous foreign countries with many of these trips courtesy of their daughter, Marion, who was a flight attendant with Northwest Airlines. Tony walked across the London Bridge in London during the war and then again in Lake Havasu City, AZ, where they spent their winters over the last 20 years. In October 2010, Tony was excited to be chosen to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. It was truly a memorable trip that he spoke of often. Tony and Vi celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this past August during a family weekend in northern Minnesota.
He is survived by his wife, Vi; daughters Julia Ann (and David) Agard of Kearny, NE, Marion (and Dan) Doheny of Shakopee, Susan (and James) Soulek of Le Center and Toni Ellen (and Vince) Coffey of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Abby Green, Barry Agard, Debbie Volkenant, Anne Osentowski, and Jaime Harmon; step-grandchildren Joshua and Jesse Doheny; nine great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; brother Edward (and Erma) Kaisershot of Marathon, WI; sister-in-law Arlene Washa; nieces and nephews.
