WINTHROP — Marilyn Conklin, age 80, of Winthrop, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010, while receiving care at Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop, with interment in the Winthrop Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the Schriners Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010, and 7:30 a.m. -8:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Marilyn (Mastain) Conklin was born on July 16, 1929, to Neil and Cornelia (Anderson) Mastain, in Waterloo, Iowa. She was educated at West High School in Waterloo, and received her BA degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1951. Marilyn taught a short time before marrying Dean Conklin in 1952. They resided in Spokane, Washington, while Dean was in the United States Air Force. Later they lived in St. Paul and Rochester before moving to Winthrop in 1964. She enjoyed her close association with First Lutheran, where she served as financial controller for many years. She was an avid knitter, enjoyed playing bridge and was involved with many committee activities. Marilyn also helped run the family nursery — Conklin Nursery in Winthrop, for many years.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Dean Conklin of Winthrop, MN; five children, Martha Alsleben and her husband, Randy, of New London, MN, Paul Conklin and his wife, Jean, of Greeley, CO, Bradley Conklin and his wife, Suzi, of Anchorage, AK, Blair Conklin and his wife, Gwen, of River Falls, WI, and Lori Plemmons and her husband, Dale, of North Mankato, MN; 12 grandchildren; sister, Margaret Rasmussen and her husband, Bob, of Solvang, CA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Neil and Cornelia Mastain.

Margaret C. Buck, known to many as “Mardy”, died peacefully on February 18, 2010, at age 87 due to complications of dementia. Mardy had been a resident at Sunrise Cottage of Mankato for the past 18 months. She was predeceased by her parents, the Reverend Harry W. Buck and Anna Mayer Buck, her sister Lucy Buck Lehman, her brother-in-law Ken Lehman, and her devoted friend, Dr. Jane Ann Roberts.
