Wallace Decko

Mankato resident, Wallace Decko, 72, died Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2009 at Woodland Hills Chapel in Mankato, with Chaplain Jim Dye, officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at the chapel.

Wallace was born July 4, 1937, in St. Peter, MN, to Maynard and Jeanette (Oster) Decko. After graduating from St. Peter High School, he served in the U. S. Army from 1955-1957. On October 21, 1967, he married Janis Passon in Watertown, South Dakota. Wallace was a press operator at WINCO in Le Center, MN and also worked for Dotson Co. in Mankato until retiring in 2001. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and being with his dog, “Corky”, but especially loved spending time with his family.

Wallace is survived by his wife, Janis; 1 son, Kevin (Leslie) Decko of North Mankato; 1 daughter, Chris Dewar (Glen) of Mankato; grandchildren, Jessie Dewar, Tom Dewar, Riley Decko and Joey Decko; his mother, Jeanette Decko of St. Peter; 1 brother, Willis Decko of Zimmerman, MN; 2 sisters, Joann Schaefer (Rick) and Marilyn (Gene) Schultz all of Le Sueur; nieces and nephew, Tammy (Steve) Swanson, Billy(Molly)Schultz and Ashley Schaefer; great nieces and nephews, Beth Sterling, Erin, Connor and Cassie Schultz.

He was preceded in death by his father.
