Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 21, at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 23 in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at First Memorial Edina Chapel, 7110 France Avenue South, Edina, MN.
Sergeant 1st Class (retired) Roger Dennis Brokaw was born on April 15, 1945, to Robert and Rose (Traen) Brokaw in Monterey, CA. He attended schools in Renville, MN; Ft. Pierre, SD, where he met his wife, Jan; and graduated from St. Peter High School, St. Peter, MN in 1963. Roger was a member of the Army from Feb. 1, 1966, until retiring on August 26, 2004. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, was stationed in Japan and had served during Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Roger attended the University of Minnesota majoring in semantics with an emphasis on Japanese. He spoke six languages and was studying others at the time of his death. Roger married Jeanette C. (Jan) Borner/Kost on May 6, 2006, in Harvey, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents and wife YaLi Peng.
Roger is survived by his wife, Jan of Harvey; daughter Angela Brokaw and her significant other Mark Rolf of Cleveland, MN, Angela’s mother, Linda Melvin; son Nicholas Welsch and significant other, Marley Shermen, of Lino Lakes, MN; stepsons, Todd R. and JoAnn Kost of New Salem, ND, Shane M. and Kristi Kost of Zap, ND; Tyler C. and Kristy Schutt, Hazen, ND; stepdaughters, Stacie L. Bornemann, Hazen, ND, Angel E. H. Stalcup and her significant other, Jack McLean of Hazen; eight step-grandsons; two step-granddaughters; 14 nieces and nephews; sisters, Diane (Tom) Vanderschule of Seaside, Oregon, Kathy (Jim) Kersey of Sioux Falls, SD, Nancy (Pete) Gerchak of Price, Utah, Doris Miller of Mankato, MN.

Margaret C. Buck, known to many as “Mardy”, died peacefully on February 18, 2010, at age 87 due to complications of dementia. Mardy had been a resident at Sunrise Cottage of Mankato for the past 18 months. She was predeceased by her parents, the Reverend Harry W. Buck and Anna Mayer Buck, her sister Lucy Buck Lehman, her brother-in-law Ken Lehman, and her devoted friend, Dr. Jane Ann Roberts.
