Cyril ‘Cy’ Goettl


Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Our Lady of The Prairie Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine and continue one hour prior to the Mass at the church. The VFW and American Legion prayer service will be at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary. Interment will be in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.

Cy was born in Mankato on December 6, 1928 to Frank and Caroline (Baumgartner) Goettl. He attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Mankato. After he finished 8th grade, Cy worked at Goettl Grocery Store in Mankato, then as a millworker for Lindsey Sash and Door before and after serving in the U.S. Army, in Germany, during the Korean Conflict. On September 14, 1953 he married Lorraine Anderley at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. The family moved from Mankato to Blakeley Township where he farmed until he retired in 1994. He was Past President of the Blakeley Coop Elevator, Past President of the Belle Plaine Farm Fire Association and a Quarter Master of the VFW. Cy enjoyed playing cards, fishing, dancing and listening to old time music. He was a member of the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, American Legion, in the Belle Plaine Sportsman Club, Catholic Order of Foresters and was an usher at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael and brother, Harold.

Cy is survived by his wife, Lorraine Goettl of Belle Plaine; Children, Sharon (Allen) Schmitz of Belle Plaine, Tom (Laurie) Goettl of New Prague, Laurie (John) Leonard of Glendale, AZ, and Chris Goettl of Raymond, MN; Grandchildren, Bridget Schmitz, Valerie (fiancé Jesse Haugesag) Schmitz, Jason (Kelli) Schmitz, Sarah Leonard, Andrew Leonard, Monika Goettl and Parker Goettl; Brothers, Larry (Betty) Goettl of Owatonna and Frank (Kathy) Goettl of Mankato; Sisters, Delores Reuter and Shirley Pestka of Mankato and Barb Slimmer of Mesa Arizona; Sister in law, Jeanette Goettl of Eagle Lake; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred.
