Lyle William Hermel, age 74, of Waterville died on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at his home in rural Waterville.
Born on September 26, 1934, in Kilkenny Township, Le Sueur County, Minnesota, he was the son of Leonard and Agatha (Meyers) Hermel. He attended rural grade schools and graduated from Waterville High School in 1952. He later attended Concordia College in St. Paul. Lyle served in the United States Marine Corps in the Philippines, Okinawa, and Japan. He married Susan Marie Salmon on November 25, 1961. Together, they lived and farmed in Kilkenny Township. Lyle was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville, where he served in various offices.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; four children, Timothy Hermel of Kilkenny, Todd (Shauna) Hermel of St. Joseph, MO, Tamara (Andrew) Herbes of St. Bonifacius, and Lt. Col. Thomas (Jennifer) Hermel of Randolph Air Force Base, TX; six grandchildren, Danielle Hermel, Paul, Jay and Rachael Herbes, and Thomas Jr. and Jesse Hermel. He is also survived by one brother, Douglas Hermel of Kilkenny; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother-in-law.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 12, 2009, from 4-8 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville and continue on Saturday, one hour before services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville, with Rev. David Mumme officiating. Burial will follow at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville. Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home of Waterville is handling arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville.
