Walltrout “Wally” Hildegarde Erika (Krueger) Jobe peacefully joined her Savior on Tuesday, November 11, 2009, at Lake Shore Inn in Waseca, Minnesota. The oldest of seven children, she was born on August 23, 1923, in Labs Pommeran, Germany.
At the age of three, she emigrated from Germany by boat with her parents, Herman and Anna (Kuhl) Krueger, sister Hildegarde and brother Herman, settling in Austin, Minnesota. Growing up in Austin, she attended Austin schools and proudly achieved her GED later in life.
She met the love of her life, Harvey Arthur Jobe, at the Wilton Lutheran Church. On February 7, 1942, they married at the parsonage of St John’s Lutheran Church in Austin, Minnesota. Harvey and Wally were fortunate to enjoy over 67 years of wedded bliss.
Wally was very involved with St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waseca for many years through her teaching of Sunday School and participation in the Cotta Guild. After researching Christian symbols, Wally assisted with creating hand-made Christmas ornaments for the altar trees at St. Paul’s that are still in use today.
As an artist, she created and sold many ceramic items through her business, “Wally’s Ceramics.” She especially loved Christmas and created Santa figurines, Christmas Villages, and Nativity sets for many years. Further developing her artistic side, she also painted porcelain plates and particularly enjoyed painting flowers and birds.
Wally jumped in as a Girl Scout leader for her daughter’s troop providing leadership for local girls. She loved to sew and made numerous outfits for her granddaughters. Wally also sewed a wedding quilt for each of her grandchildren.
Along with her husband Harvey, Wally loved to travel. They visited their children frequently, and traveled to Florida, Texas, Mississippi, Colorado, California, Oregon, Washington, New York, Tennessee, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and all points in between. They made many friends in Arizona where they wintered in their trailer around Apache Junction for almost 20 years. For many years they made an annual trek to Winona in the fall for apples and dinner at the Hot Fish Shop. They also belonged to several RV groups, especially enjoying their Holiday Trailer group.
Always taking pleasure in her friends, Wally played with a local Bridge group for many years. She also enjoyed playing pinochle and pfeffer with her family. Harvey and Wally also danced the night away many evenings with the Night Owl square dance club, complete with matching couples’ outfits.
Somewhere in there, she made time for her jobs at Jostens in Owatonna, E.F. Johnsons, Bird’s Eye and Madsen’s Grocery Store in Waseca.
Wally is survived by her husband Harvey Arthur; her two sons, Harvey Richard and Jannice (Link) Jobe and Bill and Lyn (Francis) Jobe, all of Monmouth, Oregon; and her daughter, JoAnn (Jobe) and Bill Schmitz of Monument, Colorado. She has 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Dorothy (Krueger) and Edgar Felske, of Janesville and Lillian (Krueger) Hoffman of Waseca. She also has a brother, Jim Krueger, in Big Lake, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Hildegarde and her brothers Herman and Alfred.
She lived a good life. Our daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother is now at peace and rest, celebrating with her Savior.
Visitation will be held at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca on Friday, November 13, 2009, from 4-8 p.m. and continue on Saturday, one hour before services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009, at 10:30 a.m at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. Terry Quick officiating. Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
