Sister M. Brigid Heffernan, SSND, 88, died Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Good Counsel Provincial House. The Funeral Mass will be Monday, November 23 at 10:30 a.m. in Good Counsel Chapel. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Good Counsel, with 7 p.m. Vespers, and one hour before services. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.
Sister Brigid (Patricia Heffernan) was born near Northfield, MN February 26, 1921. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1938 and took First Vows in 1941. She taught and served as administrator in several Minnesota and North Dakota schools, including Loyola High School (1957-62 and 1976-77). After retiring from fulltime school service, she taught ESL and did volunteer work in St. Paul.
She is survived a sister Elizabeth O’Connor, Simi Valley, CA, a sister-in-law, Phyllis Heffernan, St. Paul, nieces and nephews and their families, and her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents F. Edward and Mary L (Flynn) Heffernan, 6 sisters and 1 brother.
