Dale Kirk Parsons, age 85 of Amboy, died Monday, November 23, 2009 at his home.
Born on February 9, 1924 in Clemons, Iowa to Ward and Reba (Kirk) Parsons, he later moved to MN where he graduated from Good Thunder High School. He served his country in the Army Air Corp as a bomber flight engineer in WWII. He was united in marriage to Ardith Stokesbary on January 21, 1948 in Amboy. They farmed in Garden City for three years before moving to Vernon Center, where they farmed until their retirement. Dale raised livestock and always took pride in straight rows and no weeds in his fields. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served on the church board. He was also a lifetime member of the NRA, Masonic Lodge, and the American Legion. He served on various boards including the Federal Land Bank, Township Board, and the school board. He was a member of the Republican Party.
Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, snowmobiling, camping, photography, playing cards and watching his grandchildren’s school sports. He was a baseball and football fan; had the talent to watch a sporting event, listen to another game on the radio, read the paper and know what was going on in each game. He had a hearty laugh which made others chuckle. Dale also loved dogs and always had one as a friend.
Dale is survived by his children, Kirk (Vickie) Parsons of Vernon Center, and Karen (Tim) Haroldson of Amboy; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Everett and Glatha Stokesbary; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ardith in 2008; and one day prior his brother, Lowell.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Grace United Methodist Church in Vernon Center with Rev. Jean Sidner officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
