Henry Leo ‘Hank’ Stenzel


Henry Leo “Hank” Stenzel, age 88, of Minnesota Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 at the Mapleton Community Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at 2:00 PM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Minnesota Lake. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00-7:00 PM at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday. Father Eugene Stenzel will officiate and burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Minnesota Lake. Military Honors will be accorded by the Minnesota Lake Legion Post and the Wells Color Guard.

Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is assisting the family with arrangements.

Henry L. Stenzel was born June 22, 1921 in rural Wells, the son of George C. and Anna K. (Olsen) Stenzel.

He was united in marriage to Florence LeBrun on August 7, 1945 in Mapleton, MN.

Henry served his country in WWII from August 1942 to December 1944 with the Engineers in Egypt. He was a member of the American Legion of Minnesota Lake and life member of the VFW of Wells. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He lived in the Wells-Minnesota Lake area all his life. He was a building contractor and a farmer. He built homes for Nordaas American Homes for 37 years.

Henry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Florence Stenzel of Mapleton, MN; 3 daughters: Karen (Leonard) Binstock of Owatonna, MN, Lois Dutton of Estelline, SD, and Diane (Kevin) Stiernagle of Aitkin, MN; 1 son: Gary (Jane) Stenzel of Minnesota Lake, MN; 18 grandchildren, 14 step grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and 1 great-great-grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Anna Stenzel; twin infant daughters; sons Russell and Bruce; sister Mildred Habeck and husband Harlan; brothers-in-law Jim Spriggs, Claude Bishop and Roy Latourelle; father and mother-in-law Felix and Wilhelmina LeBrun.
