College football gameday: Augsburg at Gustavus Adolphus

Gustavus notes: The Gusties (1-0) won their opener last week, 35-26, at Simpson, starting the season with a victory for the third time in the last 11 seasons. ... Gustavus holds a 54-16 advantage in the series, though Augsburg has won three straight, including last season’s 37-20 victory. ... Junior running back Jeffrey DuBose rushed for 119 yards last week, the fourth 100-yard game of his career. ... Senior Muresuk Mena’s debut at quarterback went well. The converted receiver had 228 yards of offense, throwing for two touchdowns and running for another. ... Jordan Rudenick punted six times, averaging 48.3 yards, with five inside the 20 and three inside the 5. Rudenick was honored by the MIAC and d3football.com for his performance. ... The defense scored two touchdowns last week. It’s the first two-score effort by that unit since 2007. ... The MIAC went 13-0 in nonconference games the last two weeks.

Augsburg notes: Augsburg (0-1) defeated Concordia (Wis.) 41-20 in the opener, then had a bye last week. ... Quarterback Ayrton Scott and running back Phil Putratz both rushed for more than 100 yards in the opener, and Scott passed for 139 yards. ... Linebacker Bryce Vee made nine tackles, one more than defensive back Enrico Barrozo. ... Augsburg’s defense had two sacks and two interceptions.
