Stingers put stop to MoonDogs’ rally

MANKATO — A ninth-inning rally came up one run short for Mankato Sunday as the MoonDogs dropped a 6-5 decision to the Willmar Stingers in a Northwoods League baseball game at Franklin Rogers Park.

The ’Dogs trailed 6-3 going into the bottom of the ninth before Chase Fowler smacked a two-run double. Willmar reliever Brady Anderson left runners stranded on first and second when it retired pinch-hitter Drew Stankiewicz to end the game.

Richie Navari got the win, allowing two earned runs over 51⁄3 innings for the Stingers. He struck out one, walked six and gave up four hits.

Adam Mott started for Mankato and took the loss. He allowed three earned runs over 61⁄3 innings, fanning four, walking one and giving up four hits.

Kenny Roberts smacked two home runs to lead the Stingers. He finished with six RBIs. Roberts and Dozier had two hits apiece.

Mankato was led by Nick Ratajczak and Trevor Allen with two hits each. Fowler and Allen both had two RBIs.

The MoonDogs (19-7) host Willmar in a getaway game at 1:05 p.m. today at Franklin Rogers Park.
