Beetles sting MoonDogs

ALEXANDRIA — The Mankato MoonDogs fell behind 11-1 after five innings and never recovered, dropping a 12-3 Northwoods League baseball decision to Alexandria on Friday.

Tanner Vavra led the Beetles assault on three Mankato pitchers, going 3 for 6 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Sean O’Hare finished 2 for 5 with two RBIs and Ryan Padilla was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Ali Simpson worked the first five innings for the win. He allowed just three hits, one run, walked four and struck out six.

Davis Henderson took the loss, giving up 11 hits, 11 runs, walking five and fanning one. Alex Hill and Trey Nielsen mopped up.

Chase Simpson was 2 for 4 with an RBI to pace the Mankato attack.

The MoonDogs (18-6) take on the Beetles again at 7:05 p.m. tonight in Alexandria.
