MoonDogs narrowly beat the Beetles

ALEXANDRIA — The Mankato MoonDogs quelled a ninth-inning uprising Saturday and held on for an 8-7 Northwoods League baseball win over Alexandria.

The ’Dogs lead 5-0 early in the game only to see the Beetles come back to tie it at 5. Mankato then went ahead 8-5 before Alexandria rallied for two runs in the ninth. The Beetles left the bases loaded in the final inning.

Nick Ratajczak led Mankato, going 3 for 4 with an RBI double in the third. Chris Munoz smacked a two-run homer in the fourth and Chase Fowler followed with a solo shot.

Trevor Belicek got the win in relief of starter Seth Webster. Belicek threw three innings and allowed no runs on two hits.

Patrick Goelz started the ninth and loaded the bases with nobody out before finally ending the game with the one-run lead.

Mankato (19-6) now won nine of its last 10 games. The MoonDogs return to action at 6:05 p.m. today at Willmar.
