MANKATO —
Brandon Adema had career highs in points (20) and rebounds (10) to lead Mankato East to a 75-60 win over Rochester Mayo at the East gym. It was the Cougars first Big Nine Conference win of the season.
East, which led by only five points at halftime, extended its advantage to 67-52 with 3:30 to play to all but clinch the win. Brock Margenthaler scored 14 points for the winners.
Yasin Omar and Mattu Choul had 13 points apiece. Choul also had eight rebounds.
Both teams committed 13 turnovers. East had a 33-30 edge in rebounding.
The Cougars (2-9, 1-4 in Big Nine) play again Friday at Owatonna.
West boys 65, Albert Lea 54: The Scarlets’ Jake Dale had 16 points with 14 rebounds in a Big Nine Conference win at the West gym.
Trevor Burmeister had 14 points and four assists for the winners. Austin Majeskie finished with 11 points.
Cody Scherff had 16 points and six rebounds for the Tigers.
West (5-5, 3-2 in Big 9) travels to Rochester Mayo Friday.
NRHEG girls 78, East 68: Carlie Wagner poured in 32 points as New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva downed Mankato East in the nonconference win at New Richland.
Wagner converted three 3-pointers and had 10 rebounds, six assists, four steals and three blocked shots. Jade Schultz finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds and four assists for the Panthers.
