ALBERT LEA — Austin Majeskie scored 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Mankato West boys basketball team to a 77-58 Big Nine Conference victory over Albert Lea on Tuesday.

West led 33-23 at halftime.

Also for the Scarlets, Jake Dale had 14 points and seven rebounds and Alex Knutson had 12 points and six assists.

Albert Lea’s Cody Scherff finished with 14 points.

West (12-8, 9-5) will host Rochester Mayo on Friday.

Mayo 49, East boys 40: Rochester Mayo’s Dan Jech put up 18 points with 10 rebounds to hand visiting Mankato East a Big Nine boys basketball loss.

Brandon Adema led the Cougars with nine points and seven rebounds, and Brock Margenthaler scored eight points with four rebounds.

The Cougars shot 31 percent from the field and were outrebounded 35-31.

East (5-17) hosts Owatonna Friday.

Albert Lea 75, West girls 61: Cara Christiansen scored 12 points with 10 rebounds for Mankato West in a Big Nine girls basketball loss to visiting Albert Lea.

Lexi Schoper had 19 points and four assists for the Scarlets. Sarah Buryska scored 10 with six assists and Malorie Veroeven had 14 points with three steals.

Sydney Rehnelt led the Tigers with 27 points.

The Scarlets led 36-34 at halftime. They shot 40 percent from the free-throw line and 37 percent from the floor.

West (6-14, 5-10 Big Nine) hosts New Ulm Thursday.
