MANKATO —
Drew Stankiewicz’s two-run single highlighted a four-run third inning as the Mankato MoonDogs extended their winning streak to seven by defeating Waterloo 5-2 in a Northwoods League baseball game Monday at Franklin Rogers Park.
The MoonDogs broke open a scoreless tie in the third. J.M. Twichell singled, and Craig Massoni doubled. Kyle Turner got the first RBI with a single, and Chad Christensen added an RBI single. Stankiewicz followed with a two-run single that made it 4-0.
Waterloo cut the deficit in half with single runs in the fifth and seventh innings, but the MoonDogs added an unearned runs in the seventh on the fifth Bucks’ error of the game.
Zach Hall was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs over 6 2/3 innings. Patrick Goelz pitched the ninth inning for his ninth save.
Turner had three hits, and Massoni scored twice.
The MoonDogs (26-7) and Waterloo play again today, beginning at 7:05 p.m. at Franklin Rogers Park.
