MANKATO —
Minnesota State baseball coach Matt Magers has agreed to a new four-year contract extension, the university announced on Tuesday.
The agreement replaced Magers’ previous contract that expired at the end of June. No other terms were available.
During his first four seasons with the Mavericks, Magers posted a 173-57 overall record for a .752 winning percentage. His teams have won three consecutive NSIC regular-season titles and three conference tournament titles (2009, 2010, 2012) and made four straight NCAA postseason tournament appearances, including two trips to the NCAA Division II World Series. Minnesota State finished third in the nation this past season.
“I’m very thankful to the administration for the confidence they continue to show in me as I pursue the goal of developing student-athletes on and off the field,” Magers said in a press release. “I’m extremely grateful to the Minnesota State University community for how they have treated me and my family. I have a tremendous support staff to work with, including assistant coach Adam Christ. I look forward to our continued success.”
Magers, a Gaylord native, was named Central Region coach of the year for the second straight season and was NSIC coach of the year in 2011 and 2012.
“We are thrilled to be able to make this commitment to Matt,” MSU athletic director Kevin Buisman said in the release. “Maverick baseball has enjoyed an unprecedented level of success during his first four years, and we expect to build on that and be able to sustain it into the future. The on-field accomplishments have been matched in the classroom, and we are equally proud of the team’s high academic standards. I am confident that coach Magers will continue to provide outstanding leadership for the MSU baseball program.”
