Mavericks notes: Minnesota State (6-0, 2-0 in Northern Sun, South Division) is rated 10th by the American Football Coaches Association and No. 5 by d2football.com. ... The Mavericks lead the series 10-0, including 6-0 at Blakeslee Stadium. ... Minnesota State could start the season with seven straight victories for the second time in program history, joining the 2009 team. ... The Mavericks lead the Northern Sun in rushing defense (45.3 yards), pass defense (156.3 yards), scoring defense (10.8 points) and time of possession (34:08). The Mavericks are second in rushing offense (235.2 yards) and scoring offense (35.5 points). ... Senior receiver Adam Thielen ranks fifth in program history with 2,036 yards receiving and sixth in receptions with 149. ... Junior kicker Sam Brockshus needs three points to reach 200 for his career. This season, he’s made 10 of 13 field goals and 25 of 26 PAT kicks. ... Quarterback Jon Wolf (ankle) and tackle Chris Reed (ankle) both have participated in practice this week and could play today.

Mustangs notes: Southwest Minnesota State (2-4, 1-1 in South Division) ended a three-game losing streak with a 40-24 win over Wayne State. ... The Mustangs average 27.7 points, gaining 232.2 yards passing per game. Warren Matthews is the top rusher with 535 yards and three touchdowns, while quarterback Tyler Peschong has completed 111 of 204 passes for 1,388 yards and 10 touchdowns. ... Linebacker J.J. Bobrowicz leads the team with 45 tackles, and linebacker Blake Pennock has 41 tackles.
