ST PETER — Senior Mitch Elofson and junior Nathan Huber made it through the Section 2A Doubles Tournament undefeated on Friday to earn a berth in the Class A state meet on June 7-8.

Elofson and Huber represented St. Peter in the section competition and opened Friday’s play with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Arend Turner and Jacob Moorhead of Mound Westonka. In the finals, the St. Peter duo defeated William Griffin and Wells Brose, also of Mound Westonka, by a score of 6-3, 6-0.

The Saints had another doubles team in the tournament as well. Sam Peterson and Spencer Gault lost to Griffin-Brose 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals and then dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Turner-Moorhead for third place.

In singles action Friday, Holy Family Catholic’s Connor Oberle blanked teammate Jake Esenther 6-0, 6-0 in the finals. Sander Lee of Mound Westonka then came back to defeat Esenther in a true-second match.

The Class A state singles and doubles tournaments are being played at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis. The Class AA meet takes place at the same time at the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus.
