MoonDogs suffer first loss of season

ST. CLOUD — Penn State’s John Walter made his first start for the Mankato MoonDogs Sunday and he didn’t last very long.

The St. Cloud Rox roughed up the right-hander for seven hits and six earned runs in 52⁄3 innings on the way to a 6-0 Northwoods League baseball victory at Faber Field.

St. Cloud did most of it’s damage in the fifth and six innings, scoring three and two runs, respectively. Mark Rhine and Nick Rau led the Rox with three hits apiece.

Paul Schaack limited the MoonDogs to just three hits through seven innings to get the win. Blair Moore was the only multiple-hitter for Mankato, smacking two hits.

Mankato is back in action at 7:05 p.m. today at the Duluth Huskies.
