CHASKA —
Right-hander Nick Kaus pitched six shutout innings and Tony Konicek drove in three runs as the Mankato Twins downed Chaska 8-2 to win the Class B Super Sectional amateur baseball tournament Sunday.
Kaus scattered six hits in his six-inning stint, walking three and striking out three. Joe Kern finished up, yielding two hits and two earned runs over the last three innings. He walked three and struck out one.
While Kaus and Kern were keeping the Chaska offense in check, the Twins’ bats were strutting their stuff. Konicek finished 3 for 5 with a home run.
Teammate Jeremy Sudbeck was 3 for 4 and also hit a home run. Danny Miller smacked a single and a double and Kevin Regan went 2 for 3 with a run scored.
The Twins (22-2) go into next weekend’s Class B State Tournament for the 10th straight season. Mankato is scheduled to take on Red Wing at 8 p.m. Friday in a first-round game at Joe Faber Field.
