WILLMAR —
John Michael Twichell and Danny Murphy each hit home runs as the Mankato MoonDogs defeated Willmar 6-0 in a Northwoods League baseball game Friday.
The victory gave the MoonDogs (41-27) a one-game advantage over Willmar for homefield advantage should the teams meet in the division playoffs.
Twichell hit a two-run homer in the first, and Murphy added a solo shot in the third, when Chase Simpson also hit a sacrifice fly that made it 4-0.
Cody Ferrell’s RBI double in the sixth pushed the lead to 5-0, and Kyle Turner added an RBI single in the seventh.
Michael Frericks, Trevor Belicek and Matt Marsh combined on a six-hitter. In three hitless innings, Marsh struck out six.
The MoonDogs wrap up the regular season with a two-game series at Waterloo, beginning today at 6:35 p.m.
