MANKATO —
The Mankato MoonDogs rallied for six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Sunday, pulling out a 10-8 Northwoods League baseball victory over Waterloo at Franklin Rogers Park.
The Dogs trailed 7-4 after 6 1/2 innings before putting together the winning rally. Chas Simpson started it off with a single and Chad Christensen followed by reaching base on an infield error.
David Andriese then ripped a run-scoring single and advanced to second on another infield error. Craig Massoni and Chris Munoz followed with RBI base hits in front of Cody Ferrel’s sacrifice bunt.
Waterloo’s third error of the inning enabled Zach Luevanos to reach base and scored two more runs. Before it was over, Trey Nielsen added a base hit, Nick Ratajczak walked and Simpson belted a sacrifice fly.
The rally made a winner out of reliever Alex Hill, who pitched one shutout inning, allowing one hit and striking out two. Patrick Goelz came on in the ninth to earn his 12th save of the season.
Andriese finished 3 for 5 to lead the Mankato attack. Munoz was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, Massoni was 2 for 5 with a triple and Simpson also had two hits and drove in a run.
Mankato (3-1 in the second half) plays a 6:35 p.m. game tonight in Waterloo, Iowa.
