BIRD ISLAND —
Josh Conley scattered six hits over nine innings, leading Rochester to a 3-2 win over the Mankato Twins in Sunday’s elimination bracket of the Class B State Amateur Baseball Tournament.
Conley walked one and struck out three. Jimmy Strain had an RBI double for the winners.
Twins shortstop Ryan Greene knocked in his team’s first run with a single in the fifth inning. Teammate Steve Helget added an RBI double in the seventh.
Brett Fratzke was the hard-luck loser, allowing one earned run on eight hits.
It marked the first time in three meetings that Rochester has defeated the Twins this year.
The loss gives Mankato a final record of 23-4. Rochester now advances to the final weekend of the tournament where it will take on an opponent to be named at 1 p.m. Saturday in Willmar.
