West girls hockey advances in 2OT

LITCHFIELD — Cassie Rigdon’s goal at 2:48 of the second overtime gave fifth-seed Mankato West a 1-0 victory over fourth-seed Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato in Thursday’s first round of the Section 2A girls hockey tournament.

Bre Black took the initial shot from the point before Rigdon crashed the net and slipped in the rebound for the Scarlets’ victory. West was outshot 37-34.

Maggie Cusey recorded her second shutout of the season, stopping all 37 shots.  “She was on top of it tonight,” West coach Mike Sipe said.

West (7-17-1) now advances to Saturday’s semifinals where it will take on No. 1 seed Mound-Westonka at 7 p.m.
