MSU women perfect in NSIC soccer

ST. CLOUD — The third-ranked Minnesota State women's soccer team kept on rolling Sunday, notching a 1-0 victory over St. Cloud State in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match.

Junior Courtney Vallarelli scored the only goal of the game. After a scoreless first half, during which MSU outshot the Huskies 5-0, the Mavericks finally broke through in the 77th minute.

That's when Vallarelli forced a turnover, gathered in the ball and buried it for her third goal of the season. Sophomore goalie Molly McGough made one save to earn her ninth shutout of the season and the 20th of her career. The second stat tied assistant coach Sheila Reynolds’ school record.

Minnesota State (12-1-1, 11-0-0 in NSIC) resumes conference play Saturday at Southwest Minnesota State. Starting time is noon at Marshall.
