THUNDER BAY, Ont. —
The Mankato MoonDogs' second-half struggles continued Monday as the Northwoods League baseball team dropped a doubleheader to the Thunder Bay Border Cats.
The 'Dogs lost 8-4 and 5-4. Both games went seven innings.
In the first game, Thunder Bay put the game away with a four-run third and a four-run fourth. John Suiter had a pair of doubles to lead the Border Cats.
Garrett Hughes got the win, limiting Mankato to four hits and one earned run over six innings. Bommer Scarborough took the loss, yielding seven earned runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out two.
Kevin Corey and Kyle Turner finished up for the ÕDogs. Nick Ratajczak had doubled and scored twice to lead the Mankato attack.
In Game 2, the MoonDogs scored a run to go ahead 4-3 in the top of the seventh only to see Thunder Bay score twice in the bottom half of the inning.
Trevor Belicek took the loss. He came on in the seventh and got the first out but then walked Phillip Lyons and gave up a the game-tying triple to Brett Kay. Kay scored a few minutes later on a wild pitch to end the game.
Craig Massoni was 2 for 2 with a double to lead the Dogs. James Buckelew got the complete-game win, allowing five hits and two earned runs with six strikeouts and four walks.
The MoonDogs (10-13 in second half) are back in action against the Border Cats at 6:05 p.m. today in Thunder Bay.
