ALEXANDRIA —
Tanner Vavra ripped an RBI single to center field in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday to give the Alexandria Beetles a 13-12 Northwoods League baseball win over the Mankato MoonDogs.
Blue Earth native Garrett Anderson took the loss in relief, allowing two hits and one run over 1 1/3 innings. Alex Guilford got the win. The MoonDogs committed four errors.
Chase Simpson led the Mankato attack, going 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI. Teammate David Andriese was 2 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs. Audie Afenir and Kyle Turner also had two hits and knocked in two runs apiece.
The loss drops Mankato to 11-17 in the second half. The slumping MoonDogs have now lost nine of their last 10 games.
They return home tonight to face the Duluth Huskies in a 7:05 p.m. game at Franklin Rogers Park.
