Deatley places 16th at state gymnastics meet

MINNEAPOLIS — Mankato West freshman gymnast Miranda Deatley placed 16th out of 32 competitors on the balance beam Saturday at the Class A State Gymnastics Meet at the U of M Sports Pavilion.

Deatley scored a 9.1 on the beam.

“She had a strong performance for her first time there,” West gymnastics co-head coach Elizabeth Mulliken said. “She stuck to her routine, had a good day and we look forward to building on this for next year.”

Briquelle Bowden of Alexandria won the event with a score of 9.6125. Sela Fadness of Austin was second with 9.5250 points.

The other individual champions were Fadness on both floor exercise (9.6625) and uneven bars (9.6125) and Hannah Wendel of Alexandria on vault (9.7875).

Fadness claimed the all-around title with a score of 38.575 points. Bowden was second with a score of 37.950 points.
