MANKATO —
The Mankato MoonDogs baseball team announced Friday that it would be donating nearly $2,000 for Duluth flood relief efforts from funds collected during Thursday’s game against the Duluth Huskies at Franklin Rogers Park
The MoonDogs donated $3 for every ticket sold for Thursday’s game to the American Red Cross Flood Relief Fund. Also, the team received additional donations from an in-game fundraiser, a number of local businesses, and a contribution from the concession staff, who gave all of their tips toward the cause.
“We wanted to do our small part,” MoonDogs general manager Kyle Mrozek said in a press release. “I’m blown away by the generosity of our fans and business partners that helped us get to the number we’re at.”
The MoonDogs were in the middle of a three-game home series against the Huskies when the news of the damaging flooding in Duluth broke. Mrozek said he received calls and emails from fans asking what they could do to help the Duluth community.
“We wanted to help out a fellow Northwoods League member in the community,” Mrozek said. “We want to give credit to our fans for calling in and making us believe the idea would be successful.”
The American Red Cross is still accepting donations for flood relief. The organization may be contacted at redcrossmn.org or by calling 800-733-2767.
You may also text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation or send checks to the Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross at 2524 Maple Grove Road, Duluth, MN 55811.
