ANCHORAGE, ALASKA —
The 14th-ranked Minnesota State men’s hockey team got off to a solid start in its Western Collegiate Hockey Association game at Alaska Anchorage on Friday night.
After one period, the Mavericks led the Seawolves 2-0.
Teddy Blueger and Jean-Paul LaFontaine scored the MSU goals.
Blueger, a freshman center, scored just 55 second into the game, beating goalie Chris Kamal on an assist from Eriah Hayes.
LaFontaine made it 2-0 with 2:41 remaining in the period.
Anchorage outshot MSU 9-4 in the period, but freshman and Alaska native Stephon Williams was perfect in goal.
Minnesota State was trying to rebound from a pair of overtime losses last weekend at home against Wisconsin.
The Mavericks and the Seawolves will conclude the series at 10:07 p.m. today.
