MANKATO — MANKATO — Mankato East had two players with double-doubles as the Cougars downed Austin 79-48 in a Big Nine Conference girls basketball game at the East gym.

Claire Ziegler ended with 24 points and 12 rebounds for East. Minnie Frederick dished out 18 assists with 10 steals.

Taylor Karge had 16 points for the Cougars. Abby Connell scored 11. The Cougars led 37-27 at halftime.

Steph Justice led Austin with 16 points.

East (15-3, 10-1 in Big 9) is at Rochester John Marshall Friday.

West boys 61, Century 59: Austin Majeski and Alex Knutson hit some key free throws down the stretch, enabling Mankato West to pull out the Big Nine Conference victory at Rochester.

Majeski finished with 26 points and seven rebounds for the Scarlets. Kennedy Maker scored 12 points.

Century was led by Carter Evans’ 25 points. Teammate Matt Buettner finished with 17 points.

West (10-6, 7-3 in Big Nine) plays again Friday at Winona.

West girls 54, Century 51: Cara Christiansen converted four free throws in the final minute, helping Mankato West to the Big Nine Conference win over visiting Rochester Century.

Christiansen finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Lexi Schoper had 11 points, eight rebounds, five steals and two assists.

Malorie Veroeven helped out with 12 points, three rebounds and two assists for the winners.

Kanani Asuncion led Century with 26 points.

West (5-11, 4-8 in Big Nine) plays Friday at home against Winona.
