MANKATO —
Three players reached double figures in scoring for Maple River Monday as the Eagles defeated Mankato Loyola 73-62 in a first-round game of the Valley Conference Showcase boys basketball tournament.
Ben Larson led the winners with 17 points. Michael Lewis scored 14 points with seven assists. All 14 of his points came in the second half.
Jaron Denn finished with 10 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles.
Connor Tanhoff and Alex Piementel scored 18 points apiece to lead Loyola. Teammate Evan Ellingworth scored 11.
On Thursday, Loyola (11-10) plays at Martin County West in Sherburn while Maple River hosts Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial in Mapleton.
