Gustavus blows lead, falls in playoffs

WINONA — St. Mary’s rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to down Gustavus Adolphus 76-69 on Tuesday in a semifinal game of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament.

Gustavus led by as many at 14 points in the second half but couldn’t hold on. The Gusties trailed by one with 3:14 to play before getting outscored 11-5 down the stretch.

Jamie Stefely led St. Mary’s with 16 points. Teammates Jessica Thone and Courtney Euerle scored 14 points apiece.

Abby Rothenbuehler scored a game-high 18 points for Gustavus. Stephanie Comer scored 13, Julia Dysthe had 11 and Mia Sandstrom finished with 10.

The Gusties outrebounded St. Mary’s 40-29. They also turned the ball over 23 times compared to the Cardinals’ seven.

 St. Mary’s improves to 22-4 while Gustavus ends its season with a 15-11 record.
