Loyola opens playoffs with win over Southwestern United

Seifert scores 25 in Crusaders' victory

MANKATO —

Mankato Loyola used a 14-point run late in the game to defeat Southwest United 75-69 in the quarterfinals of the Section 2A, South Subsection boys basketball tournament Monday at Fitzgerald gym.

Carson Seifert led the Crusaders with 25 points. Alexander Piementel added 13 points and nine rebounds, and he made 4 of 4 free throws in the final minute.

Loyola (13-14) plays Mountain Lake Area or Nicollet in the subsection semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday.
