ANCHORAGE, ALASKA — Senior forward Mike Louwerse scored two goals, including the game-winner, as the Minnesota State men's hockey team defeated Alaska Anchorage 3-2 late Friday night at Sullivan Arena.
Louwerse broke a 2-2 tie at 9:42 of the third period. He now has three goals on the season.
In a battle between the bottom two teams in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, last-place Anchorage took a 1-0 lead on Matt Bailey's power-play goal with 25 seconds left in the first period.
The Mavericks came back in the second, getting goals from Louwerse and Johnny McInnis.
The Seawolves tied it again on another power-play goal in the third period. Anchorage was 2 for 3 with the man advantage, and MSU was 0 for 5.
Minnesota State also had a season-low 17 shots on goal. The Seawolves had 24 shots on goalie Phil Cook.
The teams will play again at 10:07 p.m. Saturday, and the Mavericks () have a chance to get their first WCHA series sweep of the season.
