MoonDogs head into break with win

DULUTH — The Mankato MoonDogs rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull out a 5-3 victory over the Duluth Huskies in a Northwoods League baseball game at Wade Stadium Sunday.

Trailing 3-2, Chad Christensen led off the top of the ninth with a double. Audie Afenir followed with an RBI single and moved to third on David Andriese’s double.

One out later, Cody Ferrell belted a sacrifice fly to left. Andriese recorded an insurance run on a pitching error to cap the MoonDogs’ scoring.

Matt Marsh got the win with three innings of shutout relief. He allowed one hit, struck out three and walked one. Patrick Goelz got the save with a perfect ninth.

Nick Ratajczak, Craig Massoni and Afenir led the Mankato attack with two hits apiece. Massoni finished with two RBIs.

The MoonDogs are now on the three-day NWL All-Star Game break and will resume play Thursday with a 7:05 p.m. home game against Alexandria.
