LA CROSSE, Wis. — LA CROSSE, WIS. — The LaCrosse Loggers out-hit Mankato 13-3 on Friday to earn an 8-1 victory in the finals of the Summer Collegiate World Series at Copeland Park.
La Crosse defeated the MoonDogs in the Northwoods League championship game, using five pitchers to keep Mankato’s offense in check. Jesse Holiday of Southern University got the win, allowing no earned runs on three hits through five innings. He struck out four and walked three.
The Loggers put together the winning rally in the bottom of the third. An RBI single by Brandon Bednar (Florida Gulf Coast) and a three-run double by Tyler Kursea (UC-Santa Barbara) fueled the four-run uprising.
Tyler Servais (Princeton) finished with two hits and two RBIs for La Crosse. He singled in the fourth inning and homered in the fifth.
Kevin Kramer (UCLA), Bednar and Bobby Juan (U of Minnesota) added two hits apiece. Kuresa ended up with three RBIs and Bednar had one.
Mankato’s only run came across in the top of the fourth. Craig Massoni (Chabot College) reached on an error, John Michael Twichell (Texas-Arlington) singled him to third and a wild pitch sent him home.
Alex Wise (Northeastern JC), Twichell and Andrew Coffman (Ellsworth CC) had the only hits for the MoonDogs. Mike Avila (Missouri Baptist) took the loss, yielding five earned runs on seen hits over the first three innings. He fanned three and walked three.
Matt Marsh (Central Florida) pitched well in defeat for Mankato, pitching the final 21⁄3 innings and striking out six.

The Loggers end the year with an overall record of 49-21. The MoonDogs end the season with a final record of 42-27.
Earlier this month, MoonDogs’ right-hander pitcher Adam Mott was named to the 2012 Northwoods League Postseason All-Star team. Mott is a junior from New Mexico State.
