Mankato basketball roundup

MANKATO — Yassin Omar poured in 27 points and handed out four assists, leading Mankato East to a 69-64 Big Nine Conference boys basketball win over Albert Lea Thursday at the East gym.

Brandon Adema had a double-double for the Cougars, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Brock Margenthaler scored 10 points and Mattu Chuol had nine points.

East won the rebounding battle 34-30. The Cougars led by 10 at halftime and were ahead 65-58 with 42 seconds to play before salting away the win at the free-throw line.

Dylan See-Rockers led Albert Lea with 25 points.

East (5-14, 4-8 in Big Nine) is back in action at 3 p.m. Saturday in Winona.

East girls 86, AL 70: Claire Ziegler and Minnie Frederick had double-doubles as the Cougars won at Albert Lea.

Ziegler finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Frederick had 13 points and 13 assists.

Also for East, Bria Armstrong scored 14 points, Taylor Karge had 13 points, and Abby Connell had 11.

The Cougars (18-3, 12-1 in Big Nine) host Winona at 3 p.m. Saturday.

SSM girls 58, IL 36: Shattuck-St. Mary’s won the nonconference game over Immanuel Lutheran Thursday in Faribault.

Jessica Schreyer scored 11 points for the Trojans. Leanna and Amber Matzke scored seven points apiece.

Immanuel Lutheran plays again Tuesday at home against Alden-Conger.
