9 area wrestlers finish third at state

ST.PAUL —

Scott West senior Luke Zilverberg captured a third-place medal at the Class
AA state wrestling tournament Saturday and now he's going hunting.

Zilverberg, ranked second at 138 pounds, defeated Tri-City United's Mason Brownlee 5-0 to
earn his bronze medal. It was the second meeting of the season for the two wrestlers as
Zilverberg also won a 7-2 decision in the Section 2A finals.

"That gave me a lot of confidence," he said. "I cradled him in the first
match and almost got another one tonight but we were of the mat."

Zilverberg has verbally committed to attending South Dakota State University in the fall
and he's already looking forward to it.

"I like to hunt and South Dakota is a great place for hunting," he said.
"And I wanted to wrestle Division I, too, so it's a good fit for me."

As for leaving high school, Zilverberg said it's time.

"I put a lot of sweat into it in high school, but I still have college ahead of me
so it's not over."

The other third-place finishers in Class AA were Skyler Petry (113) of WEM/JWP; Zach
Siegle (126) of Scott West(126); Andrew Fogarty (160) of Scott West; Tyler Jakes (195) of
Mankato West and Jacob Claybaugh (220) of Waseca.

The third-place finishers in Class A were Dylan Herman (132) of United South Central;
Chris Pfarr (152) of Le Sueur-Henderson and Aaron Bates (170) of Sibley East.
