NORTH MANKATO — Voters went with the usual suspects in the North Mankato City Council race as Bill Schindle and Billy Steiner won re-election.
Steiner led vote getters in the council race with 4,289 votes, followed by Schindle’s 4,127 and Wade Johnson’s 2,750.
“I’m happy with the way things have gone tonight, and I look forward to working on the things that we’ve been working on,” Steiner said.
Steiner and Schindle are the council’s longest-standing members. This will be Steiner’s fourth term and Schindle’s fifth.
Steiner sought re-election, he said, because he wanted to finish some of the work that began when the council successfully sought a local sales tax. Among the projects to be funded are downtown redevelopment, a library expansion, parks improvements and a new interchange on Highway 14.
Schindle, meanwhile, is the council member most likely to question spending, and is likely to be against any hike in property taxes.
Running unopposed this year was North Mankato Mayor Gary Zellmer, who received 6,273 votes.
