Officials discourage travel to Duluth area

DULUTH —

Officials are discouraging travel into the Duluth area because several major routes are closed due to the flooding, and traffic is being detoured.

The closures include parts of Interstate 35 in Duluth, parts of U.S. Highway 2 leading into Duluth from the Northwest, Minnesota 23 south of Duluth. and Minnesota 61 in several spots along the North Shore of Lake Superior.

Heading into Duluth, drivers were being routed off the freeway Wednesday as water and mud flowed along the shoulder like a river. A number of streets in Duluth are covered by standing water or mud.
