Boating crash on Lake Shetek a fatal

LAKE SHETEK — Sheriff's officials say a boating crash on a lake in southwestern Minnesota is fatal, but they are providing few details about what happened.

The Marshall Independent (http://bit.ly/NULuQo ) reports one boater died in an accident on Lake Shetek early Sunday in Murray County.

Residents and business owners on Lake Shetek say visibility is a major concern late at night when a boat's marker lights don't provide enough illumination for navigating. They say the crash happened at a bridge on the second dike of Lake Shetek.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says this year is turning out to be one of the deadliest on state waterways. Twenty-eight people have drowned in the lakes and rivers of Minnesota, including boating-related deaths. That's more than any other year in the past decade.
