Man dies in crash in Mall of America parking lot

Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS — One person is dead and two are injured after a crash in a Mall of America parking lot.

Bloomington Deputy Police Chief Rick Hart says a rental truck that was too tall for the opening hit an overhead concrete and steel support beam as it entered a parking ramp. Hart says the beam fell on the truck's cab, killing the 52-year-old driver and injuring two others.

Hart says the accident happened about 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The Star Tribune reports a structural engineering team was in the lot Friday evening, assessing the damage. The lot entrance has been closed, but could reopen Saturday.
