Dayton: Vikings stadium bill needs more time

MANKATO — Minn. Gov. Mark Dayton says a plan for a new Vikings stadium is "still breathing" but says key end-of-session negotiations need more time.

Republicans had wanted to finish the legislative session by Monday. But the session doesn't have to adjourn until well into next month, and House Speaker Kurt Zellers said over the weekend he was willing to go past Monday if progress was being made.

Dayton has lobbied for the stadium project to stand on its own. But GOP lawmakers want to lump it into a global deal that includes a tax bill and statewide construction projects.

Dayton says he would have a hard time singling out business for property tax relief as part of that deal, a longtime goal for Republicans.
