MANKATO — James Hughes, 63, of North Mankato died Monday when the Jeep he was driving south on U.S. 169 north of Mankato lost control, jumped the median and hit a northbound semi, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Hughes was a former assistant school principal with the St. Peter school district.
The 61-year-old driver of the semi, Dennis Gergen of Alton, Iowa, was hospitalized with minor injuries.
Road conditions at the time of the 4 p.m. collision were icy. There were no passengers.
